The Sustainability Code

The Sustainability Code (DNK) is a framework that provides companies and organizations with guidance on how to transparently present their sustainability eefforts. It was developed to promote sustainability in the economy and includes criteria on environmental, social and governance aspects. The Sustainability Code serves as an instrument for standardizing sustainability reporting and improving the comparability of companies. More than 1,000 companies already use the Sustainability Code database for their own reports. The Code supports organizations in communicating their responsibility towards society and the environment and thus promotes sustainable development.

The challenge

From Kentico to Umbraco: seamless transition

The relaunch of the Sustainability Code’s website presented a certain challenge: Moving from the previous content management system (CMS) Kentico to a more cost-efficient CMS Umbraco without losing personalized features and existing functionalities, was a complex task. In addition, it was important to the client to design the new system in such a way that it would enable simple content management.

The project also included a strict deadline: the new website had to be online by the end of 2023, including all previous functions such as an interactive map of training providers and a connection to the Code’s database. Achieving these goals required careful planning and execution to improve the functionality, usability and value of the website for its users.

Our solution

Successfully communicating sustainability

To meet these challenges, we used the Umbraco content management system to develop a bright, friendly and modern design for the Sustainability Code’s new website. The focus lay on optimizing the user journey and making it easier to find information quickly. We worked closely together with the Kuehlhaus agency to personalize the Umbraco CMS. To ensure a consistent design, stricter content management rules were implemented at the client’s request.
Furthermore, the existing content was carefully migrated to the new system to ensure a seamless transition and the retention of all key features and content. Through these strategic measures, we were able to ensure that the new website not only met the requirements for a modern and user-friendly design, but also efficiently integrated all known functions and thus successfully realized the transition to the more cost-effective CMS Umbraco.
